The Men: Greenwald Wins 35 Singles

Men's 35: The American men in this event were 2nd-seeded Jeff Greenwald 3rd-seeded Brett Dickinson, and alphabetical seed Dexter Macbride. Dickinson put on an awesome serve and volley display in the semis against top-seeded Franck Fevrier of France, beating him 60 62. Fevrier had beaten Greenwald the week before in the final of the Italia Cup. Greenwald also reached the final, and was leading 62 41 when Dickinson had to retire with an injury. Greenwald was the only American singles winner at this event.  Dickinson also reached the doubles final, with MacBride, falling to Stefan Fasthoff and Stefan Heckmanns of Germany. Slusarz reached the doubles quarters with his Canadian partner, Murray Benetto.

Men's 40: Mike Fedderley, Pablo Arraya and Egan Adams were the Americans in this age division. Fedderley, the 4th seed, was upset in his 2nd match by Paolo Frasson who ended up reaching the final. Adams, seeded 8th, reached the quarters, losing to eventual winner Patrick Serret. Arraya lost to Serret in the semis. Bennett Slusarz and Troy Poling also participated in the singles.  Fedderley and Serret won the doubles title. Arraya reached the semis of the doubles.

Men's 45: Sal Castillo, Mark Meyers and Wendell Pierce were the American men in this event. Meyers, unseeded, reached the semis, upsetting the top seed, Alan Rasumussen of Denmark, an alphabetical seed, Heiner Seuss of Germany and the 7th seed, Paul French of Gr. Britain, before falling to the eventual winner, Trevor Allan, of France. Castillo, seeded 5th, beat the 3rd seed, Rocchi-Lonoir and Paul Torre of France to reach the final against the former Aussie, Allan.  In a very long match Allan prevailed to win the gold medal 46 64 62. Castillo however, combined with the Italian player, Rocchi-Lonoir  to win the doubles gold in 3 sets over the Aussie pairing of Michael Collins and Wayne Pascoe. Pierce reached the 3rd round before losing to Collins in the singles. Pierce combined with Wesley Jackson, a fellow American in the doubles. They reached the quarters, losing to the 2nd seeds.

Men's 50's. Wesley Jackson, Mike Beautyman and James Pressley were the American entrants in this age division. Pressley reached the round of 16. Jackson, an alphatbetical 9-16 seed He upset the 6th seed, Reijo Tuomola of Finland before being edged in 2 closed sets by Petrov, the 2nd seed in the quarters. Andrew Rae of Australia won the event over the lefty Frenchman Armani Jumatano.

This event will be held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA in 2002, at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center (aka Holiday Park). The dates of the event are: April ? to May ?.
