The 45's: Medrado Crushes Field

The singles seeds were Maria Geyer, Austria, Patricia Medrado, Brazil, Carolyn Nichols, USA, Katalin Faygas, Hungary, Roswitha Woltsche, Austria, Terrey Schweitzer, So Africa and Lynn, Australia. Christy Wing upset the 4th seed in the 2nd round to reach the quarters. Woltsche then beat Wing in the quarters.
Nichols beat Schweitzer in the quarters to reach the semis where she fell to Geyer 75 61. Medrado crushed Geyer in the final. Frances O'Sullivan, USA lost to Geyer in the round of 16.

The doubles seeds were Nichols/Wing, O'Sullivan/Schweitzer, and Lynn/Susie, Australia. The team of Medrado/Carmen? Was not seeded and played the Australians in the first round. They beat them in straight sets,then upset the 2nd seeds 63 64 to reach the semis against Nichols/Wing. Nichols/Wing took the first set of the final 62 but Medrado/Carmen made some adjustments and fewer errors in the final sets, winning them 64 61.

There were no 3/4 playoffs, no doubles consolation events and medals only for the doubles finalists, winners, singles, semifinalists and finalists. There was no prize money.

Patricia Medrado did not drop more then 2 games a match in winning the singles. She also won the doubles.
