Austria Cup: Men's 55:  The USA were the defending champions, and were seeded #1.  Unfortunately, the Australians were not seeded, although they  had a very strong #1 player who does not travel outside of Australia, but who had won the Australian Vets championships many times. The Aussie #1 player's home courts are at the  Robertson Park Tennis Centre where the Austria Cup is being held. The Australians played the Americans first round and the match came down to a 3rd-set tiebreaker in the doubles (after the singles matches were split 1-1) and the Australians prevailed 7-5 in that tiebreaker.  USA had 2 match points in the 3rd set.

Tuesday:  USA d. Mexico 3-0.  Parker won at #1 and Hoeveler at #2 (lineup change). 

USA finished 6th.  This was an injury plagued team. Parker and Hoeveler both injured themselves before the end of the competition, leg injuries, and earlier in the week Nash hurt his back and Rush was ill. By the end of the week Nash and Rush were somewhat better, but fell in the 5/6 playoff 2-1.

Von Cramm Cup: Men's 60's:  Monday: The USA beat Slovenia 3-0: Saputo d. Mulej 4,5; Dodge d. Skulij 1,1 and Nelson/Lenart d. Skulij/Mulej 1,3.

Tuesday:  USA d. Switzerland 3-0

USA finished 2nd.

Brittania Cup 65's: USA is seeded #2.  Monday they won 3-0 over Sweden.  Tuesday USA d. Spain 3-0. Thursday USA d. Gr. Britain 3-0 to reach the final and will play Australia Saturday in the final.

USA beat Australia to win the cup.  John Powless won the first match (#2 singles) over Max Byrne in a tight 3-setter 26 64 61. King Van Nostrand lost to Peter Foulker 76 62 at #1 singles.  Jim Nelson and Len Lindborg won a brilliant doubles match over Jones and Ollie Davis in straight sets to win the Cup for the USA.

Crawford Cup 70's: First round: USA d. Germany 3-0

USA finished 2nd to Canada.

Graydon Nichols, Bitsy Grant Cup Team, men's 75

USA won the Brittania (65) and Mulloy (80) Cups and finished 2nd in the Crawford (70) and Von Cramm (60)  Cups and 3rd in the Grant (75) Cup and 6th in the Austria Cup (55).   

Bitsy Grant Cup: 75's: The seeds were: USA, Austria, Australia and Great Britain.  USA d. Canada first round.  Franco d. Caron 2,0; Nichols d. Kozar 3,2; Meyerdierks/Tully d. Duff/Goldstein 2,2.

Tuesday:  USA d. Spain 3,0, didn't lose a set. But New Zealand upset Australia 2-1. The other seeds won, and the semis are on Thursday.

USA won their round-robin event, but then were only in the semis, as the 4 teams which were 2nd in their groups were given a 2nd chance to win the competition, and Australia, which lost earlier, took out the Americans in the semis 2-1.  Nichols pulled his hamstrings but won at #2 singles, Franco lost in 3 sets at #1 singles, and the Aussies prevailed in the doubles. USA beat NZ to place third.

Gardner Mulloy Cup: 80's:  USA is seeded #1. Monday: USA d. Great Britain 2-1.  Bob Sherman d. Ells 2,0; Nehemiah Atkinson d. J. Starling 2,2; Ells/Starling d. JohnBenn/Gardner Mulloy 2,3.

Tuesday: USA d. Norway 3-0

USA won the Gardner Mulloy Cup.
