The Young Cup

USA beat Canada. Marianna Hollman won a 5 and a half hour singles match, finishing around 3:30 pm against Chantal Racicot.  Tracy Houk won at #2 singles. Australia beat France to win the Cup.

Friday, April 26 update: USA lost to France and plays Canada in the 3/4 playoff. France plays Australia for the Cup.

Tuesday, April 23, update:

The Young Cup beat South Africa Monday and Slovenia Tuesday. They won Wednesday 2-1, losing at #1 singles, but Hollman won at #2 singles and Hollman/Gandy pulled out the doubles. They next play France, which has a very strong team.

The team members are: Tracy Houk of   California, Marianna Hollman of North Carolina and Moira Gandy of California. Houk is the top ranked player in the USA in the women's 40's division; Hollman was ranked 3 in the 35's in 2001 and Gandy was ranked #4 in 40 singles and also is a top doubles player. The captain is Peggy Michel of California. The site is the Naples Bath and Tennis Club.

The following teams will be playing in Florida: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Gr. Britain, Mexico, Netherlands, So. Africa; Spain, Sweden, Turkey and USA.
