USA, led by Joni Hannah, won the Young Cup for the first time since 1999. They were unseeded, but upset Germany in the round robin portion of the event to reach the semis. They then beat Australia and Austria to reach the final. They beat the Netherlands in the final. Hollman played #2 singles and won in 2 sets and Hannah played #1 singles and took out last year's world championship losing finalist, Bakkum in straight sets to win the cup (slicing and dicing her all the way).
Biography of Players: Hannah is playing on a Cup team for the second time, having played on the Lenglen Cup team in 2001. She is the director of tennis at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna, VA. She won her first national singles title in 2003, and has won several national doubles titles including the 2002 and 2003 national indoor doubles title. Prolman is ranked #2 in the USA in women's 40 singles. She is playing on a Cup team for the first time. She won her first national title in December of 2002, the 40 hard court doubles title. She also reached the singles final there. Chandler is ranked #3 in the USA in women's 40 singles. She won the 40 clay court title in 2001 and was a finalist there in 2002. She was ranked #1 in the USA in women's 35 singles in 2000. She is also playing on a Cup team for the first time. Hollman played #2 singles and doubles on the 2002 Young Cup team. She has won several national titles, including the 2002 women's 40 indoor doubles title with Hannah and most recently was a finalist at the 35 indoor singles championships in May of 2003.
