World Championships 2000: Women's 35, 40, 45, and 50

The World Veteran's Championships for age divisions 35-50, men and women, took place October 29-November 5, 2000 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both singles and doubles were held, and first round consolation for singles.   

The top singles seeds in the women's age divisions were:  35's: Beatrix Mezger Reboul, Germany; 40's:  Patricia Medrado Summers, Brazil; 45's: Elly Appel; 50's:  Heide Orth

The Winners:

35's: Singles: Racquel Contreras; Doubles: Beatrix Metzger-Reboul/Cora Salimei

40's: Singles: Gabriella Groell-Dinuj; Doubles:  Roz Balodis/Kaye Nealon

45's:  Singles:  Elly Appel; Doubles: Ann Brown/Pauline Fisher

50's: Heidi Eisterlehner; Doubles: Elizabeth Allan/Carol Campling

Saturday News:

35's: Fuentealba vs. Contreras in the final.; Doubles: Mottola/O'Sullivan reached the final (losing only 2 games in 2 matches en route to the final.)

40's: The finalists are Groell-Dinu and Balodis; Doubles: The Beggs sisters upset the 4th seeds, the other top 3 seeds advanced. Mottola/O'Sullivan fell to Balodis/Nealon.

45's:  Birukova is in the finals and plays the winner of Appel/Figueroa.

50's: Heidi Eisterlehner is the champion! Campling/Allan reach the final

Friday news:

American Vikki Beggs reached the semis of the 40 singles, ousting the 4th and 5th seeds in the process. She plays the tough Australian, Ros Balodis, the 2nd seed, in the semis.  Her sister Alexandra reached the semis of the 35 singles before falling to Fuentealba.

Karen Gallagher reached the quarters of the 45 singles before losing to Nora Blom.  Elly Appel and Janie Birukova are also in the semis along with Figueroa.

In 35 doubles, Mottola/O'Sullivan the top seeds, are in the semis.

In the 40's,
The Beggs sisters are in the quarters and face the 4th seeds next while Karwasky/Suire face Vick (USA)/ Derychere in another quarter.

In the 45's, the top seeds, Americans Gallagher/Wheatley, fell to Figueroa (Arg.) and Gwatkin (GBR) in the quarters.   Claudia Solari is the semis of the doubles.
