Velden is on the Worthersee in southern Austrai near the Italian and Slovakian borders. The nearest big town is Klagenfurt.

There were 16 teams in the Young Cup this year. There were 4 groups of 4 teams. Each group played a round-robin. The winners of the RR reached the semis and played out for first through 4th place. The USA won its first 2 RR matches, then lost the third (which was played the day after the World Trade Center tragedy). USA then played in a group with the other 3 teams which finished 2nd in their group. USA ended up finishing 7th overall.
